Our New Home and Landscaping Projects

Here she is, our new home in the Northwest!  Although she looks pretty cute in this picture, there is some major work that needs to be done before we can move in.  After all, it is her 100th birthday this year.  She was built in 1914.

Craftsman 1914 Home ~ Vintage Street DesignsTomorrow the work begins with electricians changing out all the knob & tube wiring.  They will also be adding in numerous plug ins per our request and we’re putting in a brand new kitchen so I’m rearranging some appliances too.  Can’t wait to show you!Landscape Project ~ Vintage Street Designs (8)Since we can’t move in yet, we thought we’d get a handle on the landscaping.  We have about a 1/3 acre, mostly grass but there was years of over gowth on the perimeter of the property.Landscape Project ~ Vintage Street Designs (12)My hubs and I had fun trimming trees and bushes (even pulled out a few that were dead).Landscape Project ~ Vintage Street Designs (2)This guy sits right on the corner and full of thorns.  It needed a really good haircut!Landscape Project ~ Vintage Street Designs (5)A lilac bush I’m hoping to save.Landscape Project ~ Vintage Street Designs (17)And here’s how it looks today.Landscape Project ~ Vintage Street Designs (18)And the front is all cleaned up.  One of our neighbors said she was thankful she could see around the corner now.Landscape Project ~ Vintage Street Designs (20)Another view of the side yard.Landscape Project ~ Vintage Street Designs (16)We took out an old flower bed and decided to replace it with a fire pit.  Looking forward to those roasted marshmallows this fall.  I got this idea from cousin up at her river property.  Her son had just put one in and it looked so inviting.Landscape Project ~ Vintage Street Designs (19)I trimmed the bushes that flank each side of the steps.  My parents stopped by to take the grand tour and seemed to approve.  (Smiles)  Since it’s Labor Day, we finished up early and went grocery shopping.  We’re taking dinner over to their house tonight.  We’ll soon be doing the BBQ’s at our house but for now, we’ll go where there are tables, chairs, utensils, etc…  Haha!

The complete tour of our new home is coming soon.  I’m taking my camera over first thing in the morning to get all the before shots prior to the work beginning.

Until next time…
