Kitchen Tour

When we purchased our home 2 1/2 years ago from the bank, it was a disaster.  It had been vandalized.  The kitchen door (back door leading to the patio) had been kicked in.  All copper pipping had been cut, pool equipment stolen, etc.  But we could see the potential and we loved the layout.  We actually bought it as an investment property and then decided to move to Arizona from Chicago so it became our personal residence.  In my opinion, the kitchen was the most dramatic change we made.  Just by painting the purple glazed oak cabinets pure white made such a difference!DSC_0379Before the tour begins, here’s a couple of photos of what this kitchen used to look like.3The previous owner loved the color purple.  She had a purple glaze added to the cabinets.  All the walls had a purple tint and the carpets were purple throughout the house.

IMAG0088Track lighting, mix-matched appliances and of-course extremely dirty.  Yuckiness!!!DSC_0377We cleaned from top to bottom, fixed the back door, new stainless steel appliance package and painted the cabinets white.  The walls were painted with Behr Wise Owl in Satin.DSC_0366I have never been a fan of garden windows, probably because I don’t have a green thumb.  So I made curtains to cover the entire window but when we knew we were going to list the house for sale, I shortened them to let more light in.

DSC_0367The bar stools were free.  I just had to paint and reupholster.  The new light came from Home Depot.  It’s actually and outdoor light fixture but I loved the style so the hubs installed it!

DSC_0382We rented a storage unit last weekend and packed up several boxes, filling them with extra kitchen gadgets we don’t use on a daily basis.  I reorganized all the cabinets so they’ll look nice and spacious when potential buyers come for viewings.  I placed the toaster and paper towel holder inside the pantry so the counter space was clear.

DSC_0371Placing the house on the market was the perfect excuse to get a few new tea towels.  Isn’t this one cute?  I picked this one up at Cost Plus World Market.  I got several more at Ikea.

DSC_0374With having a small kitchen, it was important to utilize every inch.  We hung this plate rack at the end of the cabinets for additional storage.  It’s a great way to display pretty plates and other items as well.

DSC_0378I have the MLS number now for our listing.  It’s #5131750.  Click here to view it on YouTube.
