Life Is But A Dream – Hand Painted Oar

Life is but a dream ~ hand painted oar (6)A couple of months ago, my husband picked up this oar and brought it home for me.  He said “can’t you come up with something cute to paint on this?”  Well, it kind of got pushed back in the garage since I had so many other projects to work on first.  And then last week, it came to the surface again.  It was time!

Life is but a dream ~ hand painted oar (1)I’m sorry I don’t have an original photo.  It was a glossy natural wood tone and had been pretty scratched up but still in good, solid shape with no cracks or repairs to note.  I painted it with CeCe Caldwell’s Paints ~ Seattle Mist first and then decided it needed a little something extra.  So, I introduced it to Pittsburgh Gray by adding a stripe.  Then I sought out help from all my friends on my facebook page regarding their thoughts on what saying I should add.

I was thinking of “Welcome to the Lake” or “On Lake Time”

Here’s a just a few of the wonderful suggestions that were given to me…

“One Stroke At A Time”, “Drift Away”, “Go Jump In The Lake”, “Up A Creek Without A Paddle”, and of-coarse “Life Is But A Dream”

They are all good right?  It was so hard to choose!

Surprise!!!This was my latest surprise from my hubs ~ a Silhouette Cameo.  Wow, it is so AMAZING!  I brought out the adhesive vinyl and printed out the words of what I wanted to say and WHALA… I had a stencil.  It’s just that easy!!!Life is but a dream ~ hand painted oar (2)I had to take the photos out by the pool.  It just had to be near water.  Life is but a dream ~ hand painted oar (3)I know the rest of the country is buried in snow but it was absolutely gorgeous here today. Life is but a dream ~ hand painted oar (7)I used CeCe’s Maine Harbor Blue for the lettering and then lightly distressed with sandpaper over the top to give it a bit of a weathered look.  I enjoy working with the vinyl lettering but painting is still my first love.  It takes more time and shows a few more imperfections but I think that’s what I like about it most.

Thank you Linda for the inspiration!  I hope there are more wooden oars in my future so I can have the chance to use some of the other fun sayings.

Hope you all have a blessed week.
