A Surprise Early Thanksgiving…

My husband is the sweetest!  He surprised today with an early Thanksgiving Feast!  He decided it would be nice to do all the work of preparing the BIG meal today and then relax tomorrow, doing nothing but enjoying the day and eating leftovers.  I’m lucky to have such a thoughtful partner who also loves to cook ~ and is good at it!!!20131127_121423When I got home about noon today after running several errands and walked through the front door, I could smell the aroma of a Thanksgiving meal.  The turkey had just come out of the oven, the mashed potatoes were almost done and my husband was baking a sweet dessert in the oven20131127_121513I am in the process of decorating for Christmas and had already removed my fall tablescape, so I quickly scrambled to set the table in somewhat of a festive display.  We rarely eat at the table since it’s just the two of us most of the time.  We really enjoyed sitting in our dining room and thanking God for all his blessings.SAM_1805Dave gave me this pair of Pottery Barn Deer years ago before we were even married.  I still LOVE them today as much as I did when he first gave them to me.  A Surprise Early Thanksgiving 2013 (8)The Turkey…what can I say?  It tasted FABULOUS!20131127_121436And of-coarse, gotta have the mashed potatoes and gravy.  When we were finished eating, there was hardly a dent made.  We’ll be eating potatoes for the next week!  Maybe feed the neighbors too!  Haha.SAM_1800Thanks to Pioneer Woman for all the inspiration she brings to my husband.  Here’s one of her recipes Dave has been wanting to try.  So yummy!!!SAM_1804Our Menu:

turkey, mashed potatoes & gravy, cranberries (my personal favorite part of the meal), fruit salad, coleslaw, deviled eggs, olives & dinner rolls.

Normally we have stuffing too but since it was just the two of us this year, we already had too much food.  We had a really fun day and I’m glad my husband wanted to go ALL OUT!  I love the holidays spent with family and since that couldn’t happen this year, it was still nice to have our own little celebration.

I hope your Thanksgiving is a very special one whatever you are doing and whom ever you are with.

  1. How awesome Judy! I love it that he knows you well enough to know you would love it too!
I’ve spent most of the day in the kitchen, doing as much prep work as possible, so tomorrow I won’t be tired! The kids all bring side dishes, pies, etc. so the family dinner isn’t all on my shoulders, but still, its a lot of work! Thankfully I won’t feel as wiped out tomorrow as I feel right now! ha!
Pecan pie, stuffing, cranberry relish, corn pudding, and the turkey are all ready to go – I’ve got my time table written down to keep me on track. I’ll get the table set and decorated in the morning, while the bird is roasting.
I’ve been looking forward to this for weeks … months? … as I just love to cook and entertain.
Your table looks great! The food looks wonderful! By now you’re full and contented.
Enjoy your day off tomorrow! Plus, those leftovers ALWAYS taste so much better than the first time around!
    Blessings to you and yours,
