Husband’s Nightstand Reveal

SAM_0122From Ethan Allen Sunflower Yellow to the beautiful Chateau Grey, my husband’s nightstand has been transformed.

I’m in the middle of so many projects right now but ya know, every now and then you just gotta take the time to do something for yourself (or your family).  My husband was asking me when I was going to get around to painting his nightstand so he could fill the drawers and actually use it?  I was so happy to have an extra boost of energy last night and took this project on for him.  He is always ready and willing to help me whenever I ask.  He’s AWESOME!!!SAM_0110Now, I will admit that my original plan was to do some hand painting on this piece.  But for now I’m going to leave it as is, in the future I may add to it.  If I do, I’ll be switching nightstands with my husband so he won’t have to look at a frilly nightstand.  Let me know what you think, should I add some hand painting?

SAM_4433I was thinking something along this line!  To see more on this piece click here.

SAM_0118I was really low on my paint color of choice so I reserved the top for an accent color.  And sure enough, I ran out of paint.  I scraped the bottom of the little sampler jar I had to finish the base of the nightstand.  This little sampler also painted the other piece I showed you with the hand painted design.

7I painted a coat of CeCe Caldwell’s Chalk Paint Virginia Chestnut on the top but I wasn’t overly impressed.  So, I got out Vermont Slate and brushed another quick coat.  Perfect!!!

3As you can see, there is a little white peaking through.  I painted a coat of Vintage White over the entire piece first.  Once the cabinet was completely painted and dried, I put a very fine piece of sandpaper on the power sander and distressed the whole thing.  I then rubbed on some clear finishing wax on the top and my husband put back on the original knobs and pulls.  Within a few minutes, he was all moved in!6I may have to switch out the top knobs with pretty crystal ones too if we swap nightstands!  (smiles)

2I would have shared more photos of the bedroom but other than the bed being made… it was NOT photo ready!  Real life was happening in our home with laundry, craft room organizing, etc…so I was lucky to squeeze in this photo shoot!

Until next time…

  1. I think Chateau Grey is one of those underused colours that needs more exposure. I always love it and it looks awesome on this piece, Judy. I bet your husband is one happy boy right now!

    • I totally agree! The very first time I used this color, I thought “why hadn’t I heard of it or noticed it before?” LOVE it! Oh, and yes…my husband is very happy! 🙂 Thanks Heather!
