Summer Mantel

Are you having a crafty weekend?  I’ve been busy shredding material into long strips (more news to come about that later) and making colorful buntings.  While I was in the mood, I took a few minutes to update our living room mantel.  It was still looking like Easter.  As I looked through my drawer of stencils, I came across my bird stencil.  I remembered seeing a bunting sometime ago with birds on it so I used that as my inspiration.  I already had a huge mess happening in my living and dining rooms with material and scrapbooking paper, so I figured this would be a good time to be a little selfish and make something pretty for us to enjoy.

SAM_4621I actually just used the same jute I used for our Easter “R.I.S.E.N.” bunting.  Off with the old and on with the new.

SAM_4620I stayed up late to clean up.  It was quite amazing really, I’ve kind of made that switch in life where I’m ready for bed early and rise up early in the morning.  But not this time…I didn’t get to bed until after 2:30 am.  It was fun though.  I don’t know where my extra energy came from!

SAM_4616Each bird is unique so I just have to show you a closeup of each.  Aren’t they cute?

SAM_4614I have lots of left over scrapbooking supplies from days gone by which really came into play with this project.

SAM_4615Staying with the color scheme of our home, I used blues and greens as the primary colors.

SAM_4612I love this paper, a little bit vintage!

SAM_4613OK…I know you’re thankful I only made five, right?  Haha!

SAM_4624Ya know what I was just thinking?  Next weekend is Mother’s Day.  I think my mom deserves a homemade card with one of these cute little birds on it.  She lives in Spokane WA.  so I better get busy so I can get it in the mail.

Mom & I airbrushedHere’s a photo of my Most Fabulous Mom with me just before I married my hubs in 2005.

SAM_4622I kept the egg wreath on the fireplace screen ’cause it still goes right along with the theme.

SAM_4625The only other thing I changed was to turn my ceramic block around from the “E for egg” to the “A. for Ainger”.

SAM_4626And here’s a closeup of the other side!

SAM_4629Well, that’s it.  Pretty simple huh?  It’s probably a good thing I didn’t have to change much more than I did or I would have been up all night!

Bunting Collage 2I pray that as you enter the new week, God fills each day with blessings that overflow!
