Curbside Rescue Transformation

I have been hearing of so many successful curbside rescues from bloggers all over the world but it’s something I had just never done…until now!

My husband and I went out for a bike ride not too long ago and just as we were heading home we noticed pieces of dresser sitting along side the curb.  We immediately came to a stop since it’s exactly the style of dresser that catches my eye.  While I stood guard, Dave peddled his bike around the corner to our house and grabbed the pickup.  Soon we had all the pieces loaded and we brought her home with us.

Here’s a few before photos↓

As you can see she was in pretty rough shape but other than the bottom drawer, it was completely salvageable.  Yay!!!  So I asked Dave to cut a shelve to replace where the drawer once had been.  He did that and after tightened her all up she was ready for her makeover.

Look at her now…

Thoroughly cleaned the entire dresser then I rubbed in beeswax on the top and painted the remainder of the dresser white.  Once the paint was dry, I heavily distressed with my power sander.
I pulls were not anything to write home about, so I replaced them with these glass knobs.  A much softer, delicate look.

I was going to pick up a basket or two for the shelve but before I could get to the store, our sweet neighbor from across the street stopped by, saw the dresser and knew it was meant for her.  She’s only 25 years old, owns her own home, works and goes to school full-time.  Yep, she has earned the “Good Neighbor Discount” for this beauty.

Funny how things workout.  This dresser went from one neighbor to another to another.  I guess it was meant to stay in our neighborhood!!!

All-in-all, I think my first dumpster dive was a HUGE success!  Can’t wait to do it again!

  2. What a great job – and love the story of staying in the neighbourhood – just goes to show – one man’s trash theory is dead on!!! ( of course you took away the trash part but still………….. )
    Have a happy Easter wknd,

  3. What a sweet story. I love that it is staying in the neighborhood. The new knobs really ad a lot. It looks fantastic!

  4. Great find, Judy! Love the makeover, too. It is amazing to see what people throw out {especially if there is a drawer missing}. I found two small dressers curbside. One had no drawers and the other had one of its three drawers. I made them both over and one is in my home; the other in my daughter’s!

  5. I love it, you did a fantastic job! 🙂

  6. Judy, I have that same dresser and after seeing yours I think I will have to do a little transformation like you did. I love it. Thanks for sharing all your talent!
