Bed Frame to Garden Bench

It’s a beautiful Sunday morning here at the Ainger household.  I’ve been anxious to share this project with you for quite some time.  I think I’ve had this bed frame for almost a year now, just waiting to make a garden bench out of it.  After cleaning and organizing our garage, plus placing all my finished pieces in Furniture Affair, we finally have a place to really create!  My husband Dave, is always up for a challenge.  I just show him pictures and say; “I want something like this!”  He got busy with all the measurements, cutting and putting all the parts together like a puzzle!  He never disappoints!!!
This was our first attempt at making a garden bench out of a bed frame so we just kind of winged it!  Next time I’ll do a full tutorial.  It took way to much concentration to worry about taking pictures and jotting down notes.
Once the frame was finished, we had to cut the seat.  I had this material left over from my counter top in my work space so we decided to use it!  It worked out pretty slick, slid right into place!
I then used my graphite paper transfer method to trace on this beautiful french graphic from The Graphic Fairy.  The hardest part for me was painting it.  It’s much easier to paint with a steady hand when painting a table top, I couldn’t do it all in one sitting ’cause my back and neck were tense.   It was all worth it though.  It looks great on my front patio.  You can’t see it, but there’s a lantern hanging above with a remote control candle in it.  So pretty at night!
And here’s a close up!  I sanded over the entire surface, even the lettering to give it a worn look as if it’s been there for years.
I borrowed these pillows from my dining room window seat.  I think I’m going to have to buy more or a make a few!
It’s always fun learning new ways of doing things…and in this business, there really is no wrong way ~ anything goes!  I LOVE that!

It’s warm enough to wear flip flops today.  Yay!!!  We’re heading out to enjoy the day of sunshine!
