The day has finally come to reveal my new fireplace mantel. Thanks to my talented hubby and wonderful father-in-law! We have lived in our little dessert cottage for just a little over a year now, and as you can see by the “before” photographs some immediate changes had to be made. After replacing carpet and washing away all the hint of purple off the walls with paint, we were ready to do some serious decorating! However…I started my business during this same time and I got so busy that a lot of the decorating and additional remodeling kind of got set on the back burner. We are so close to completing the living room, we can taste it! I just purchased the final accent chair yesterday so once I re-upholster it and set it in it’s place, no more furniture will be needed! Whoohoo!!! So anyway, back to the mantel ~ I had been gather several mantel photos online the past several months and saving them in a file for the hubs, so when my father-in-law came for a visit a few weeks ago they went to town! I was able to paint it last week but wanted to decorate it for Spring/Easter before revealing it to all of you. Last night I took a few minutes and made the RISEN bunting and scoured the house for additional decorations. The white ceramic block was a purchase I made last week from Furniture Affair with some store credit I had. It has the letter “A” on one side and since our last name starts with “A” I just had to have it. It will be fun to use all year long!
Here is a photo of what the living room looked like when we purchased this house.
Yay…we have a mantel!!!
I chose to paint it with same white I painted the trim throughout the entire house.
All cords from the TV are hidden inside the mantel. My husband built a little platform inside the fireplace for the DVR box. I painted it black and set a few battery operated candles on top that I purchased from Costco. I LOVE that they came with a remote control.
Such pretty paper…I plan to recover a couple of my pillows with brighter fabric for Spring and put the red ones away for the season.
I recovered a couple of small books with printed vintage music paper.
My first choice would not be to have a TV over the fireplace EVER. But, this was our ONLY choice in this house. Doesn’t leave me a lot of room to decorate but I’m very happy with the space I have!!!
I have three little egg wreaths left over from the shoppe I owned in Idaho several years ago. I still enjoy bringing them out every year!
